Midreshet B'erot Bat Ayin is excited to announce our 2008-2009

Garden of Emuna:
Torah & Agriculture Program

under the auspices of Rabbi Lazer Brody,
translator of Rav Shalom Arush's Garden of Emuna: A Practical Guide to Life

Join Midreshet B'erot Bat Ayin for our monthly lecture series with Rabbi Brody!

Each of our souls is a Garden of Eden!

The entire physical world is an illustrative example, an analogy to the spiritual. Land requires cultivation, planting, and watering in order to bring forth human sustenance, and it also needs guarding from those things which can harm and ruin the growths. In the same manner is the Garden of Eden, which today is the land of the souls. (Ohr Ha-Chayim Bereishit 2:15)

Cultivating the garden is a metaphor for serving Hashem, and guarding it against pests is a metaphor for guarding our souls against negative influence. The inner Garden within each of us must be nurtured, and protected from those things which can harm and ruin its spiritual growths.

Hashem promised Avraham that the Land of Israel would become the heritage of his children. As descendents of Avraham, it is our task to work in union with the Land to make it flourish for our people. As we plant orchards, vegetables and herbs, we are not only working to turn over the soil and discover what is beneath, but as well to dig deep within ourselves to uproot those areas that harm our spiritual growth, while nurturing those middot, the good character qualities that assist us to grow spiritually. Just as Avraham had emunah to come to Eretz Yisrael, we too must believe that Hashem will send us the necessary “waters” to allow the greenery and our own souls to blossom and flourish.

Grow & Let Grow!

Midreshet B’erot Bat Ayin is delighted to announce our Garden of Emunah Torah & Agriculture Program beginning this fall of 2008, which will be G-d willing under the auspices of Rabbi Lazer Brody. This program, a chiddush (nuance) in the world, unique and unlike any other Torah program, will be the bench mark for others on how to live in harmony with the Land, emphasizing global consciousness, Torah & ecology, importance of working the land and sustainable living. Through wholesome organic living and environmental awareness, we will be able to grow and let grow. After having observed the laws of shmittah during the past year, the parcel of Land that B’erot calls home is bursting with a renewed vibrancy, just waiting for us to begin working in unity with Hashem.

Join us as we lay the groundwork for our “Garden of Emunah” and help create a miniature Garden of Eden that will become an example for the world of women bringing redemption by living in harmony with the Land, now and in the future, to enjoy both its physical nutrition and spiritual inspiration!

Torah of the Earth!

We will immerse ourselves in authentic Torah of classical Jewish texts in the morning seder of learning, including classes in Tanach, Halacha, Tefilah and Emunah. In addition, we will explore Torah sources on Judaism and the environment. An in-depth learning of Parashat Lech Lecha will reinforce the central concept of emunah as we learn about how Avraham followed Hashem’s command leaving everything certain in his life for the sake of the Land of Canaan. Rabbi Lazer Brody acting as a spiritual guide for this program will be giving regular teachings based on his translation of The Garden of Emunah by Rabbi Shalom Arush, a monumental international best-seller that is opening people’s eyes to the true and sincere path to happiness and self-fulfillment.

During the afternoon, our Torah will become rooted as we learn from professional organic gardeners (Illan Nov, Meir Rhodes) under the supervision of Yisrael Horowitz, experienced landscape architect… The learning will include both theory and practice in soil improvement, creating the growing environment necessary for the best possible outcome, rotation of crop as the season indicates, the art of pruning, organic pest prevention, as well as instruction on how to plan and implement a landscaping project. It is our sincere hope to be able to offer B’ezrat Hashem a certification course through the Ministry of Agriculture, for students who complete their period of enrollment at Midreshet B’erot Bat Ayin.

In the Heart of Bat Ayin!

The rural setting of the village of Bat Ayin nestled in the Judean hills, with its emphasis on wholesome living and environmental consciousness is especially conducive for our program.

In recognition of the significant impact of Midreshet B’erot, the community of Bat Ayin has granted us land to build our permanent campus and plant our orchards. Our Garden of Emunah Program will be an ornament for the community, a blessed addition to the many organic garden projects of the neighborhood. We will be able to share knowledge and seeds with the many inspired gardeners of Bat Ayin. Imagine the sense of accomplishment that you will experience as you partake in the fruits of the Land and your labor.

Tikun Olam!

As we draw close to the geulah (redemption), it is imperative to develop a deeper connection with the Land. The Vilna Gaon in Kol Hator delineates the threefold mission of Mashiach Ben Yoseph who paves the way for our final redemption: 1. To reveal the secrets of the Torah, 2. To ingather the dispersed exiles, 3. To eradicate the impure spirit from the land. This requires keeping the mitzvot dependant on the land. We have the zchut (merit) at Midreshet B'erot Bat Ayin’s Garden of Emunah Program to be involved in all of these holy endeavors which build the blessed future of Israel. Join us in this exciting opportunity to plant the future of Israel.

There is no greater sign of the coming of redemption than, when the Land of Israel produces fruits in abundance. (Sanhedrin 98a)
